1. Introduction
Kirana Ledger ("we", "us", or "our") provides an offline-first credit ledger application for Indian kirana stores. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Kirana Ledger Android app and our API at kirana.gunawat.in.
By registering for or using Kirana Ledger, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
2. Information we collect
Store owner information
When you register your store, we collect:
- Owner name
- Phone number
- Store name
- Store address (optional)
Customer and ledger data
Data you enter about your customers and daily business, including:
- Customer names, phone numbers (optional), nicknames, and notes
- Credit (udhaar) entries, line items, and amounts
- Payment records and payment methods
- Product names and prices you maintain in your catalog
Authentication data
We use your phone number to send one-time passwords (OTP) for login. OTP delivery is handled by MSG91, our SMS provider. We do not store your OTP codes after verification.
Technical data
The app stores authentication tokens in your device's secure storage. When you sync, we process sync metadata (such as timestamps) to keep your local and server data consistent.
3. How we use your information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Kirana Ledger service
- Authenticate you via phone OTP
- Store and sync your ledger data across your devices
- Back up your data on our servers when you are online
- Respond to your support requests
We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
4. Local storage and offline use
Kirana Ledger is designed to work offline. Your ledger data is stored locally on your device in a local database. When you regain internet connectivity, changes are synced to our servers to keep your data backed up and available across sessions.
5. Data sharing
We share information only in the following limited circumstances:
- MSG91 — to deliver OTP messages to your phone number during login
- WhatsApp — when you choose to share a statement with a customer, the app opens WhatsApp on your device with a pre-filled message. We do not receive or store WhatsApp messages
We do not integrate third-party analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs in the Kirana Ledger app.
6. Data retention
We retain your account and ledger data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. If you request account deletion, we will delete or anonymize your data within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain information by law.
7. Your rights
You may request to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Delete your account and associated data

8. Security
We use HTTPS for all API communication. Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure storage. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children's privacy
Kirana Ledger is intended for kirana store owners and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of Kirana Ledger after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
